Camp Description: We’ll explore the age-old practice of respectfully gathering natural materials to make wonderfully homespun arts & crafts. Then, we’ll adventure through the forest to experience the art and magic it has to offer. Think blackberry ink, lavender wands, land art, forest games and more! Lakewood Community Club will be our home-base for the first few days of camp, and then we’ll spend the last few days at Seward Park. Each day will include art, games, outdoor time, lunch, and lots of fun! To register, go here!
2019 Camps
This 2019 summer season will be our 5th year facilitating art camps at Lakewood Community Club in Seattle, and we hope you’ll join us this summer! Each mini-camp is three days long and goes from 9-1pm.

Bringing stories to life through art…
Lakewood/Seward Park Community Club

Description: Storytelling comes from a place of imagination, and in this camp, stories will come to life through art! We’ll explore everything from bookbinding to flip books to dioramas to collaborative story-based projects to illustrations, and more! The Lakewood Community Club will be our home-base, and each day will involve art projects, stories and games, lunchtime, outdoor play, and lots of fun!

July 15 -17 / 9-1pm / M-W / En Plein Air
Bringing art outside…
Lakewood/Seward Park Community Club
Ages 5 – 9

Description: We’ll prepare outdoor travel art kits on the first day, and then venture outdoors at Seward Park to explore nature while painting, sketching, and making land art “in open air.” Being outdoors will help our imaginations run wild. Lakewood Community Club will be our home-base on Monday, and the rest of camp will be based outdoors at Seward Park. Each day will include outdoor art and play, contemplative art-making, lunchtime, and lots of fun!

July 29-31 / 9-1pm / M-W / Sound Art
Amplifying the sound of art …
Description: This camp will explore art and sound through process art, sensory experiences, instrument-making, and collaborative sound art experiments, sometimes using technology and sometimes using nature and recycled materials. Lakewood Community Club will be our home-base, and each day will include art projects, outdoor play, lunchtime and lots of fun!

Camp Teacher Info:
Amber Kai Morgan runs the daily operation of The Makery and teaches weekly toddler art classes in Seattle and in Kitsap County throughout the year. She also teaches art classes at preschools & after school art clubs, and facilitates Makery birthday parties, creates art workshops at schools and organizations, and has provided unique art experiences at Southend Seattle events including Othello Festival, Cheasty Greenspace Lantern Walk & Full Tilt Make & Take art days. CPR & First Aid certified.
Sarah Cortes attended The Makery’s Toddler Art classes when her twins were toddlers and assisted with day-of toddler art class logistics for a year, has been a Support Teacher at Lakewood Cooperative Preschool in the neighborhood, and currently teaches a weekly Makery toddler art & sensory play class in Seattle. CPR and First Aid certified.

Creating food using everyday materials

Description: This camp will explore the wonderful world of food through an artistic lens, and we will craft food-themed art pieces using recycled materials. We will be learning about different art techniques like printmaking and sculpture, and we’ll be concocting an artful feast through the camp!
